If you've ever visited Cape May from late July to early October, surely you've noticed monarchs fluttering by! The monarch butterfly, with its easily recognizable orange-and-black pattern, will only lays its eggs on milkweed plants, the primary food source for monarch caterpillars. The disappearance of milkweed from the monarch's habitat has greatly impacted its population. Individuals can help by planting native milkweed in their gardens.
