Green Babson Window Earrings
Green Babson Window Earrings
Before architect Louis Sullivan set out for Chicago, he worked in Frank Furness' Philadelphia firm, Furness & Hewitt. According to Sullivan's autobiography, he was attracted to the Furness office because unlike other architects of the time referencing history books, Furness "made buildings out of his head". Read more on Frank Furness and track his influence on Louis Sullivan and Frank Lloyd in Frank Furness: Architecture in the Age of the Great Machines.
The Babson house in suburban Illinois was designed by Sullivan in 1907. Though it is no longer standing, the servant's quarters, stables and greenhouse survive. Designed in 1915 by Purcell & Elmslie, the buildings' decorative detail is the inspiration for these earrings.
